Function
While Epitalon is reported to increase lifespan and reduce tumor incidence in animals, and to influence differentiation of neural and mesenchymal stem cells; is studied as an epigenetic regulatory peptide36, Kisspeptin is a key regulator of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis, controlling puberty and fertility; kisspeptin-10 also inhibits trophoblast invasion and tumor metastasis in experimental models339199.
Mechanism
While Epitalon works as a synthetic tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), that has been shown to bind histones and modulate gene expression and chromatin state, with reported effects on pineal function, neurogenesis, and longevity in animal models36, Kisspeptin is a family of peptides (eg, kisspeptin-10, -13, -14, -54) derived from the KISS1 precursor that activate G-protein–coupled receptor KISS1R (GPR54), triggering GnRH release and regulating pubertal onset and reproductive axis activity339199.
Length and Sequence
Epitalon is 4 amino acids long, whereas Kisspeptin is longer as it has a length of 10 amino acids. Epitalon is made up of a sequence of Alanine, Glutamic acid, Aspartic acid, Glycine. Kisspeptin is made up of a sequence of Tyrosine, Asparagine, Tryptophan, Asparagine, Serine, Phenylalanine, Glycine, Leucine, Arginine, Tyrosine.
