Comparison

GHRP-2 vs Melanotan I

Function

While GHRP-2 is used in research to induce robust GH pulses and study anabolic and metabolic effects; clinically developed as pralmorelin for GH deficiency diagnostics6272, Melanotan I is approved in some regions for prevention of phototoxicity in erythropoietic protoporphyria and is studied as a skin-darkening, photoprotective peptide3444.

Mechanism

While GHRP-2 works as a second-generation hexapeptide growth hormone–releasing peptide that mimics ghrelin by agonizing GHSR-1a, strongly stimulating pulsatile GH release and modestly raising prolactin, ACTH, and cortisol62723096, Melanotan I is a linear 13-amino-acid analog of α-MSH (afamelanotide) that selectively activates MC1R on melanocytes, increasing eumelanin synthesis and providing photoprotection3444.

Summary

Both peptides fall into a similar broad context as Hormone peptides, although the details of how they are used and discussed still diverge. Their typical research and application settings separate fairly clearly: GHRP-2 is more often discussed in the realm of Metabolic and endocrine and Musculoskeletal health, whereas Melanotan I is more often associated with the realm of Dermatology and aesthetics. Both appear to work through Receptor agonist, but the functional emphasis still separates, with GHRP-2 leaning toward Anabolic growth and Lipolysis and fat loss and Melanotan I leaning toward Melanogenesis modulation. GHRP-2 has a more synthetic design origin, while Melanotan I is closer to synthetic analog background with GHRP-2 in Clinical phase 1 and Melanotan I approved for Research use only. They are also usually discussed through the same administration routes, namely subcutaneous injection.
